Support for parents and carers

SNAP Parent Carer Forum (PCF)

From the CBC Website:

SNAP PCF is a pro-active group of Central Bedfordshire parents who all have children or young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) between the ages of 0-25 years. SNAP PCF works with education, health, children and adult social care as well as other organisations to help influence and improve local services that are provided for our children and young people, to ensure that they meet the needs of all disabled children and their families in the county.

As parent carers, the team brings a real-life perspective and experience to the planning and development of the services that families use. By continuously working with us and ‘co-producing’ any change, the team is successful at securing the changes that are needed to benefit all children and young people living with SEND in the county. Successful co-production ensures that we, along with the Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), can be confident from the outset that the services we are designing or providing reflect what local families actually want and need.

SNAP PCF is unable to offer individual support to parents, however it does provide some useful links and an events calendar to help to sign post you to services who may be able to assist with information, advice and guidance.

SNAP PCF has run a satisfaction of SEND Services survey to gauge how effecting SEND services are and is intended to reflect the views of a wide group of parent and carers. The results of the survey were shared with Central Bedfordshire Council and the Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, and can be found on SNAP PCF's website.

Children's centres

All Children’s centres are fully inclusive and welcome all families to their sessions, regardless of need. Adaptations would be made to support families.

Children’s centres do run specific sessions, at times, for children with additional needs.

Personal Advisors - Youth Support Service

From year 9, young people will be encouraged to think about future careers and post-school options and they should receive some careers education and guidance in school.

Additionally, the Youth Support Service provides services for young people aged 13 to19 years old (up to 25 for young people with special needs).

A team of Personal Advisors deliver guidance and support to young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training or are at risk of not transitioning successfully into post 16 education. Our Personal Guidance Advisors are experienced career professionals committed to improving outcomes of vulnerable young people and supporting them to overcome barriers to education, employment, and training.

Personal Guidance Advisors (LDD)

Within our team, we have Personal Guidance Advisors who specialise in working with young people aged 13 to 25 years who have an Education, Health and Care Plan. They work closely with schools, social care, and health teams to support the transition from school to further education and training settings.
