CURRICULUM
Our Ethos
Our principle aims are embodied in the phrase "Community, Opportunity and Excellence", and the outcomes of the "Every Child Matters" legislation. Academic targets are set in the context of the National Curriculum and the associated levels of attainment. Each year the school sets targets for achievement. Some of these are negotiated with the Local Authority, such as the percentage of pupils achieving a national curriculum level. Others are qualitative targets, set by teachers and governors. These are reviewed each year in our school development plan. Pupils have clear curricular targets which guide their progress.
Academic Organisation
Robert Bloomfield is divided into four year groups, years 5 to 8. Each of these is then split into two bands for the purposes of timetabling. We ability "set" in core subjects from year 6 onwards. In Year 5 we pursue elements of the themed "creative curriculum", following on the excellent work of our Lower Schools. We also pursue the personalised curriculum in Year 8 with a wide range of "option" courses. We are also very proud of the extensive enrichment of the curriculum, clubs, residential visits and activities generously provided by the staff.
We offer a cohesive curriculum encompassing the following curricular areas, as laid down under the National Curriculum:
Core Subjects
English, Mathematics, Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Foundation Subjects
French , Geography and History, Religious Education, Music, Design & Technology (Food, Fabric and Resistant Materials), Physical Education, Art, Dance and Drama.
