Humanities

KS2 Humanities:
Pupils are taught in form groups and cover a wide range of historical and geographical topics. These include the Victorians, Rainforests and the Tudors. Humanities at KS2 works very closely with the English department to ensure pupils are developing their reading and writing skills through engaging topic areas. There are plenty of extra-curricular activities for pupils to participate in, including the popular visit in Year 6 to the Black Country Museum.

KS3 Humanities:
At the start of Year 7, pupils begin their separate fields of study in history and geography. The humanities department includes several ‘specialist’ teachers in these areas and therefore pupils begin to develop the key skills necessary for success at KS3 and beyond. This enables the curriculum to be engaging and challenging.

In Year 8, pupils begin to develop the necessary skills for GCSE. Throughout the KS3 programmes of study, the humanities department has a firm commitment to developing transferable skills, such as literacy and numeracy, and preparing pupils for the next step into KS4.

The department is constantly reviewing and amending schemes of work to deliver high quality and relevant topics. For example, pupils in KS3 will explore WW1, Development, Black Peoples of America, Earthquakes and Volcanoes and The Romans to name a few.

The department offers a range of extra-curricular opportunities from school visits to internal speakers and opportunities in the local area.
